O Instituto Inhotim é um museu de arte contemporânea e Jardim Botânico, localizado em Brumadinho (MG). Reconhecido como Organização da Sociedade Civil de Interesse Público (OSCIP) pelo Governo de Minas Gerais em 2008, o Inhotim é uma entidade privada, sem fins lucrativos, mantida com recursos de doações de pessoas físicas e jurídicas – diretas ou por meio das Leis Federal e Estadual de Incentivo à Cultura – , pela bilheteria e realização de eventos. Idealizado desde a década de 1980 pelo empresário mineiro Bernardo de Mello Paz, do solo ferroso de uma fazenda da região nasceu, em 2006, um dos maiores museus a céu aberto do mundo.
Sua localização privilegiada – entre os ricos biomas da Mata Atlântica e do Cerrado –, e as paisagens exuberantes ao longo dos 140 hectares de visitação proporcionam aos visitantes uma experiência única que mescla arte e natureza. Cerca de 1.862 obras de mais de 280 artistas, de 43 países, compõem o acervo e são exibidas ao ar livre e em galerias em meio a um Jardim Botânico com mais de 4,3 mil espécies botânicas raras, vindas de todos os continentes.
Arte Contemporânea
O Instituto Inhotim exibe de maneira permanente um acervo de arte contemporânea de excelência internacionalmente reconhecida. Percorrer seus jardins, galerias e obras externas em meio à paisagem propicia aos artistas e visitantes um modelo de exposição singular, em que arte e paisagismo se entremeiam para a criação de uma experiência conjunta e única.
O projeto curatorial do Inhotim é fruto de uma constância investigativa, que almeja entender, por meio de documentação, material bibliográfico e registros visuais, as particularidades da coleção e suas diferentes abordagens e conceitos. A missão da curadoria é produzir conhecimento e divulgá-lo, seja por meio de exposições, publicações ou por ações digitais.
O comissionamento é um dos principais vetores curatoriais da instituição. Periodicamente, artistas são convidados a criar trabalhos especialmente para o Inhotim ou que levem a arte para fora do museu, a fim de fomentar e difundir a produção artística. A possibilidade de realizar trabalhos ambiciosos, em permanente exposição, está no cerne do Inhotim, criando uma relação de parceria de longo prazo com os artistas de seu acervo.
Jardim Botânico
Caminhar pelos jardins do Inhotim é mais do que contemplar sua exuberância. Inserido em porção florestal remanescente de Mata Atlântica e Cerrado – dois dos biomas mais ricos em biodiversidade e, ao mesmo tempo, ameaçados do planeta – o Instituto é um campo pulsante para pesquisa científica e uma ferramenta de conservação e educação ambiental.
Em 2010, o Inhotim foi reconhecido como Jardim Botânico, título atribuído pela Comissão Nacional de Jardins Botânicos (CNJB). Os jardins, que começaram a ser construídos já na década de 1980, contam com o projeto de Pedro Nehring, que ainda hoje responde pelo paisagismo do Inhotim. Entre os anos 2000 e 2004, Luiz Carlos Orsini assinou o projeto paisagístico de 25 hectares. Hoje, o Instituto é referência nacional e internacional em paisagismo tropical contemporâneo.
No total, são mais de 140 hectares de área de visitação, além de uma extensão de 250 hectares de Reserva Particular de Patrimônio Natural Inhotim (RPPN). O Jardim Botânico do Inhotim (JBI) faz a gestão do acervo e das coleções botânicas, compostas por mais de 4,3 mil espécies nativas brasileiras e exóticas de várias partes do mundo, além de pesquisa e monitoramento do patrimônio natural do Instituto.
Em 2021, o Instituto Inhotim foi contemplado pelo Grant Awarded – BGCI’s Global Botanic Garden Fund, incentivo internacional que reconhece e apoia projetos que atuam em prol da conservação de plantas.
